Mrs Graça Machel recently joined leaders, Nobel Laureates, artists and visionaries at the World Meeting on Human Fraternity in the Vatican City, where she opened the Human Constitutional Assembly with a call to place human dignity back at the centre of global decision-making. She reminded participants that in an age of rapid technological change and artificial intelligence, our true compass must remain steady: dignity, empathy, justice and fraternity.
The Assembly gathered around a profound question: “What does being human mean in today’s millennium of technology and innovation?” Participants explored how, in the face of fast-moving technological change and fragile truths, we can protect the values that define our everyday life.
“Technology and artificial intelligence are growing faster than ever before, opening new horizons but also unsettling our values and truths. Amid this upheaval, our compass must remain steady: dignity, empathy, justice and fraternity,” Mrs Machel reminded the Assembly.
She challenged leaders to givevoice to what it means to be human today, to translate our deepest values into concrete action, and to explore how dignity, justice and solidarity can be measured and upheld as guiding principles of our shared life. Later that day, the spirit of the assembly flowed into an evening concert at St Peter’s Basilica, where Mrs Graça Machel shared the stage with Cardinal Mauro Gambetti, Archpriest of St Peter’s Basilica and Vicar General for the Vatican City. Artists Jennifer Hudson, Angélique Kidjo and Pharrell Williams offered powerful musical performances. The images from the concert capture a moving blend of faith, leadership and intergenerational voices coming together for our shared humanity.
