Not enough is being done by our governments in investing in nutrition!
The East and Southern Africa (ESA) National Budget Commitment to Nutrition report showed that less than 1% of the governments’ national budget is allocated to nutrition programmes. This is not enough!
African countries are investing a very small amount of their own resources in nutrition programmes. The little that is being invested comes mostly from development partners and donors. The average nutrition investment in ESA is only 0.46%.
We need to urge our African governments to prioritise nutrition because it has a lot of implications on the continent’s development.
It’s time we realize that Nutrition investment is a development imperative. Let us lobby our governments to increase the proportion of funds allocated for nutrition to at least 3% in the next three years!
